I think you need to know a bit more about dogs than I do to finish this one off.

I had a feeling that the answer to 19 down, 'A shy male sort of dog' was going to be a word I was not familiar with and entering the known letters '.e.l.h.m' into XSolver proved this to be correct.

Sticking points

The last 2 clues that have me stumped today are 13 across, 'Nominally involved in a court case' 5, (-i-e-), and 24 across, 'Hunts - with seeming success', (-e-t-).
